Connectivity Issues

This is a checklist of things to investigate if you are having any problems with Istaria Chronicles of the Gifted MMO.

Please note that they are in no particular order

Note
This is not an exhaustive list, if you have tried everything suggested and still can’t login then you need to make a support ticket.

Creating a Support Ticket

Link to Support website
https://support.istaria.com/index.php?

To login into the support site you use the same username and password as you would to log into the game.

It is best to provide as much information as possible when you make your support ticket this includes;

  • Steps you have taken and solutions already tried
  • Your account name and/or character name
  • Your PC’s specifications (you can get this from the dxdiag.exe tool)
  • Any error message encountered

The more information that you provide to support, the quicker it will make it to diagnose your problem and hopefully resolve it.

Connectivity Issues

Do you have sufficient subscriptions to login to the game ?

Visit the site https://accounts.istaria.com/member.php?uid= and login using your account details

If you are using a 14 day trial account and that has expired then you will need to upgrade to another subscription package to be able to login to the game.

Free accounts do not expire but they prevent you from owning any plots or lairs and restrict you to a human character.

Have you cleared you world cache folders ?

Sometimes the world cache for the game can become corrupted and prevent login to the game

To delete world cache you need to find the following folder

C:Program FilesIstariaWorld_cache

Inside this folder you will find a folder named for the shard that you normally play on. Select this folder and delete it (don’t worry as when you log back into the game it will recreate it and download the cache again)

N.B. Under no circumstances delete the sector_default.def file, this will cause more problems with the game.

Are you running the game from the launcher.exe file ?

To login to the game you need to use the launcher.exe file in the main game folder, using an older launcher or the website is no longer supported.

C:Program FilesIstariaLauncher.exe

Have you ran a full patch ?

Sometimes if a file is missing or corrupted a full scan can fix the affected file.

Using the launcher select your character and then click the Patcher Options button.

Make sure the option for ‘full scan’ is selected and click the Play button.

Have you rebooted your router recently ?

Sometimes for no apparent reasons a network router will loose its connection to its ISP.

The easiest way to check this is to try and access a web page such as google.

If you can’t then most likely the router needs a reboot.

Do you have .NET Framework 1.1 Installed ?

The Microsoft .NET 1.1 Framework is required to be able to use the game launcher and to login to the game. You can check if you have it installed by going to the control panel and opening the Add/Remove programs icon.

C:WindowsSystem32appwiz.cpl

The description for the .NET 1.1 is “Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1”

If you don’t have it installed then you can install it from the Microsoft Support Site

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

NB Vista comes with .NET 3.0 installed as standard, however it does not have backwards compatibility to .NET 1.1.

Do you have .NET Framework 2.0 Installed ?

The Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework is required to be able to use the game launcher and to login to the game. You can check if you have it installed by going to the control panel and opening the Add/Remove programs icon.

C:WindowsSystem32appwiz.cpl

The description for the .NET 2.0 is “Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1”

If you don’t have it installed then you can install it from the Microsoft Support Site

Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1

NB Vista comes with .NET 3.0 installed as standard, however it does not have backwards compatibility to .NET 2.0.

Do you have DirectX Installed ?

The game requires graphic software called DirectX to be installed in order for it to work.

The easiest way to check you have directx installed is to go to the start menu and choose the run option.

Type in dxdiag and press the okay button.

If DirectX is installed then the diagnostic screen will appear. If it isn’t then you will get an error message.

To install DirectX you can download it from the Microsoft support website.

http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-US/aboutgfw/Pages/directx10-a.aspx

NB The most recent version of DirectX is version 10. If you have an older version then you may need to upgrade to the latest version.

NB Within the DirectX diagnostic tool there are a number of graphic and sound tests that can be performed to check the software is running properly. It is recommended to do all of them to make sure DirectX is functioning properly.

Do you have the correct ports open in your routers firewall ?

Istaria requires the following ports to be opened on your routers firewall to allow proper access to the game servers

UDP 47101 to 47110
UDP 47701 to 47710

NB UDP is another way of transmitting data over the internet similar to TCP/IP.

The patch server requires the following ports to be opened on your routers firewall

TCP 20
TCP 21

NB Ports 20 and 21 are the default ports used for FTP (File Transfer Protocol) which is how the patcher operates.

To configure your router to allow these ports please consult your router instruction manual or do a search for your router type on the internet.

For an internet search an example would be “Netgear DG834GT Port Forwarding”.

Has Istaria.exe been granted permission in the Windows Firewall ?

Istaria requires access to the internet and sometimes the Windows Firewall will block access to the Internet.

Within the Windows Control Panel open the Windows Firewall icon.

C:WindowsSystem32Firewall.cpl

Click on the exceptions tab at the top and on the list displayed look for an entry called “istaria”.

If it is missing then it will need to be added manually.

Click on the add program button and then click browse and navigate to the following locations.

C:Program FilesIstariaIstaria.exe (main game file)
C:Program FilesIstariaLauncher.exe (game launcher)
C:Program FilesIstariaSilentpatcher.exe (patcher)

This should now add 3 entries and allow Istaria access to the internet.

Have you tried running the game with your Virus Software disabled ?

Certain virus softwares can disrupt game play and on occasions block Istaria from accessing the Internet.

The best way to check this is to temporarily disable/exit the virus software and then attempt to run the game.

If it succeeds then the fault is with the virus software. It is most likely that it is blocking access to the internet using a custom firewall or similar.

In order to fix this you can either play the game with the virus software disabled (not recommended) or reconfigure the virus software to allow access. Your will need to consult your virus software manual or search on the internet for a solution to this.

The files that requires access to the Internet are

C:Program FilesIstariaIstaria.exe (main game file)
C:Program FilesIstariaLauncher.exe (game launcher)
C:Program FilesIstariaSilentpatcher.exe (patcher)

Are all your graphics and sound drivers the most recent version available ?

Sometimes out of date graphics or sound drivers can cause unexpected errors and crashes with the game.

The best way to check if you need a new driver is to go to the website of the manufacturer of the graphics/sound card and look for a drivers link.

Corrupt game installation

Very rarely the game files can become corrupted and can prevent the game from running properly.

This is difficult to diagnose as it can be caused by one of the thousands of files that are in the Istaria directory.

The best way to try and diagnose this problem is to download and create a new install of the game in a different location and then run the game from the new location. If you attempt to overwrite the 1st install the corrupted file may not be replaced.

If this works then delete the original game install and run the fresh install instead.

The patcher starts and completes, but then the game doesn’t load

Sometimes the patcher file itself has to be updated with a newer version. In this case it has to close itself.

Usually starting the launcher again should allow access to the game.

If the game doesn’t start after running the launcher a 2nd time then it may be that the Visual C++ 2005 and/or 2008 Redistributable packages are not installed.

These can be downloaded from Microsoft.

For 32 Bit System (XP)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d…displaylang=en

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d…displaylang=en

For 64 Bit System (mainly Vista)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d…DisplayLang=en

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d…displaylang=en

The patcher starts but gets stuck and doesn’t complete

There is a bug as part of a Windows Update that caused issues within the .NET framework that can cause the patcher to stop working properly.

To fix this problem you will need to install .NET 3.5 and then install 3 Hot fixes.

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Hotfixes (3 on the same page)

Stuck on loading screen or stuck looking at clouds

When a maintenance cycle has just been completed it can sometimes take up to 10-15 mins for you to enter the game.

When this happens there is nothing to do but wait for the game to load up.

If this happens outside of a maintenance period then this could suggest an internal problem with the authentication server or game server.

If it takes longer than 5 minutes to login then it is best to make a support ticket.

Consistent Error 106 Messages

If you are consistently getting error 106 disconnects from the game then this means that either the client or the route across the internet is being blocked.

Reasons for this are most commonly firewall related (see previous points regarding firewalls).

The other cause is a bad connection across the internet.

NB Rebooting your network router may solve internet router errors as a reboot makes you get a new external IP from your ISP and you may get a better internet connection (this depends on how your ISP operates and may not be so in all cases).

Consistent Error 91 Messages

If you are consistently getting error 91 disconnects from the game then this means that the server is disconnecting you for some reason.

The best thing to do is to make a new support ticket for the devs to investigate the server.

Consistent Error 11 or Error 12 Messages

If you are consistently getting error 11 or 12 disconnects from the game then this means that you are not reaching the authentication server.

This is normally a firewall error and can be fixed by following step 9 (ports) and step 10 (firewall).

NB If the authentication server crashes for any reason then everyone attempting to login to the game would receive error 11. This is a very rare occurrence.

Consistent Error 109 Messages – “

An error occurred while thawing the requested biote”

If you are receiving this error and have just been disconnected or logged out of the game then you may need to wait a few minutes for the server to catch up with the logout of your character.

If you do not have a character logged in (or recently logged out), then it may mean that a ‘session’ has been trapped on the server and it thinks that your character is still logged in when it isn’t.

The best way to resolve this is to create a new support ticket to support so they can manually end the session on the server.

Error 68 – “Requested shard is invalid”

This means that the shard you are attempting to connect to is currently offline. You would normally receive this message during weekly maintenance on the Live shards, or on Blight when it is being patched/restarted.

NB. If the player server crashes for any reason then everyone attempting to login to the shard would receive error 68. This is a very rare occurrence.

Game starts loading then screen flashes between black screen and desktop.

Newer computers have screen resolutions that are set to high for Istaria to cope with as a default.

Try reducing your screen resolution and then starting the game again
